Special Information

If you are looking for a great way to stay hydrated and want a sweet treat come to the produce department on August 3rd and purchase a watermelon to celebrate Watermelon Day.

We scream for ice cream. Come to the frozen section of the grocery department and get some vanilla ice cream for Root Beer Float Day (Aug 6th) and Banana Split Day (Aug 10th). While you are here pick up your favorite root beer and ice cream toppings to make that treat special.

Every day is a great day to BBQ. Pick up your hotdogs, hamburger, bratwurst, chicken, steak, and ribs to enjoy cooking and eating outdoors. We do have bagged ice to help keep the food and drinks cold in the coolers for your outdoor meals. While you are here, pick up the charcoal, lighter fluid, matches, and aluminum foil. In the first aisle of the store across from the produce department are various sizes of aluminum pans to help prep and to store after cooking. It is a cheap way to cook some of your veggies on the grill in a contain way and to keep what is cooked warm without compromising the food.

The Bakery/Deli is a great resource to serve lunch and light dinners for your family. They provide Boar’s Head brand meat and cheeses to make sandwiches and trays. If you stop by their department you will also notice the different types of salads they have to offer such as chicken, seafood, potato, macaroni, Greek pasta, and house salads. They offer cold sub and hot Panini sandwiches with freshly made breads and rolls. Another brand favorite that the Bakery /Deli offers is Kowalski. Currently the Kowalski Hunters Sausage is on sale so make sure you put this on your shopping list because it is a great snack. While you are shopping, pick up an ice cream cake for your special celebration.

I came across a recipe that may help you use up your summer squash and zucchini that you might be growing in your backyard. It is called a Summer Squash Casserole. I am pretty sure you could use zucchini in place of/with the summer squash if you have that instead.

2 lbs. (6 cups) yellow summer squash, sliced

1/4 cups chopped onion

1 can condensed cream of chicken soup

1 cup sour cream

1 cup shredded carrot

1 (8 oz.) pkg. herb seasoned stuffing mix

1/2 cup butter, melted

In saucepan, cook sliced squash and chopped onion for 5 minutes using boiling salted water. Drain. Combine soup and sour cream and then stir in shredded carrot. Fold in drained squash and onion. Combine stuffing mix and butter. Spread half of the stuffing mix in the bottom of a 12 X 7 1/2 X 2 baking dish. Spoon vegetable mixture on top. Sprinkle remaining stuffing over vegetable mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
