'Making merry' in December: Shop your commissary for special seasonal savings
FORT LEE, Va. – Need to prepare for the holiday season, but not sure where to start? Make your commissary your first stop for special seasonal savings.
“Whether you’re stationed abroad or celebrating at home with loved ones, commissaries around the world have the ingredients you need to make your holiday season merry and bright,” said Tracie Russ, the Defense Commissary Agency’s director of sales.
Military commissaries are offering discounts beyond everyday savings, including special holiday deals through the end of the year. DeCA encourages customers to check end-of-aisle displays, where stores showcase products with extra-low prices.
The agency also reminds customers to visit its new online customer portal, MyCommissary, to manage their online shopping experience. The portal makes it easy to access your Commissary Rewards Card account, see the current sales flyer and place a CLICK2GO curbside pickup order at participating stores.
All users, including current rewards card users, must create a new account on the site to access its features. Your new MyCommissary account can be linked to your Commissary Rewards Card using your existing rewards card number. Once you link your card to the portal, simply click “My Coupons” and then “Go to My Wallet” to access your digital coupons.
Overseas stores may have substitute events for certain promotional programs. Customers
should check with their store managers to verify when they will be offering the following sales events:
- Unilever will distribute 200,000 coupon flyers offering approximately $5 in savings to commissaries for its “MILITARY STAR Card Bill Payment” event. The coupons in these flyers were created exclusively for commissary and exchange customers! Unilever will also award $500 to 40 deserving families to help them pay down their MILITARY STAR® card balances. Select products from brands such as Vaseline®, Simple®, TRESemme®, Degree® and Caress® will be on display from Dec. 3 through Dec. 16.
- Celebrate the Holidays with General Mills. General Mills wants to help you prepare to make holiday memories by offering Holiday Bake Centers, high-value coupons and in-store giveaways at select commissaries. Promotion valid through December.
- Every time you use your MILITARY STAR® card through the end of 2018, you’ll automatically be entered to win the “Your Holiday Bill is on Us” sweepstakes. Five grand prize winners will receive an account credit for the entire balance on their MILITARY STAR® cards; 10 shoppers will win a $1,000 account credit and 25 shoppers will win a $500 account credit. Minimum value of each grand prize: $2,500.
- You could have a free turkey with the 2018 Turkey Coupon Holiday Booklet at your commissary. Purchase a fresh or frozen whole turkey in the same transaction as other products featured in the booklet and you can combine the coupons from the booklet to save up to $35.75 on your turkey. Coupons valid through Dec. 31; booklets will be available in commissaries while supplies last.
“We want your commissary to be the place where you gather all the necessary ingredients to make priceless memories with your loved ones,” Russ said. “During the holiday season and throughout the year, always remember that we are proud to be part of the military community and we are here to support you.”
