Back to School Planning

Since the children are back to school, now is good time to plan for snacks and sandwiches for their lunches. Stop by the Bakery/Deli for Boars Head sliced cheese and meats for their lunch to combine with their freshly baked bread and rolls. Aisle 6 is loaded with snacks and in aisle 14 you will find Hostess, Little Debbie, and Tasty snack cakes.

Frolic into Fall Savings.

The commissary is preparing for your Oktoberfest Celebration which is September 22nd. The changeover of fall produce will bring pumpkins, cinnamon brooms, cider, candy and caramel apples, and a wide variety of apples and squash.

Candy, Candy, Candy!

While you are at the produce department picking up your pumpkins do not forget the candy. We have a wide variety of candy to pass out to your neighborhood and coworker goblins.

Bakery/Deli Sweets

What better way to welcome fall than to enjoy the fresh smell of cinnamon rolls, pies, and muffins. The Bakery/Deli has a fall selection of pies to choose from this fall season. They are currently selling large Hershey, Reese’s, and Cinnabon muffins for your pleasure. If you are looking for a different taste sensation and have never heard of a Brookie, stop by the Bakery/Deli to see what it is all about. It is the combination of brownies and cookies (chocolate chip, sugar, or peanut butter). With school holiday parties soon to come, try the cool-whip frosting on cupcakes for a less intense sugary treat. If you like a cold dessert you might be interested in their variety of ice cream and cheese cakes.

Pumpkin and Praline Cake

1 (18 1/2 oz.) yellow cake mix

1 cup of canned mashed pumpkin

1/2 c. oil

3/4 c. light brown sugar

1/4 c. water

1 t. cinnamon

1/4 t. nutmeg

1/2 t. allspice

4 eggs

1 c. chopped nuts

1/3 c. butter, softened

1/3 c. dark brown sugar

Grease Bundt pan. Combine cake mix, pumpkin, oil, light brown sugar, water, and spices. Mix at medium speed for 1 minute. Add eggs one at a time and beat after each egg for 1 minute. Pour 3/4 of batter into Bundt pan. Sprinkle a 1/2 cup of chopped nuts onto batter and then pour the remaining batter over the nuts. Bake according to directions on cake package. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. Test after 45 minutes based on oven temperament. Combine remainder of nuts, butter, and sugar and cover over cake.
